Yes. We use no sulfates, silicones, parabens or mineral oils.

Instead we cleanse with mild sugar- and coconut-based surfactants, and we replace the slip of silicones with plant-based polymers and esters that wash out again without building up residue in the hair.

Preservation is handled with mild substances such as potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and fermented radish root, all of which are approved for certified natural cosmetics.

Yes, our products are 100 % vegan, and they are never tested on animals.

That includes the ingredients normally associated with animal origin. Keratin typically comes from wool, feathers or horn, but our keratin protein is made from soy and rice and mimics the structure of keratin.

Essentially yes. The Curly Girl Method rests on three main rules: no sulfates, no silicones and no mineral oils. None of them are in our products.

The three are connected. Silicones require harsh sulfates to be washed out again, and when we do not use silicones, the sulfates are not needed either. Instead we smooth the hair with plant-based polymers and esters that rinse clean on their own.

Alcohol is also on the Curly Girl list, and it appears in some of our plant extracts as a carrier. Here the amount is so small that it has no bearing on the hair. It is the high concentrations, found in styling products and hairspray, that can be drying. Note too that Cetearyl Alcohol is something else entirely: a fatty alcohol that the method actively recommends.

Yes. If you choose a fragrance, there are six to pick from: Coco & Vanilla, Birch & Blossom, Sea Breeze, Fruit & Floral, Crisp As Cotton and Mint & Citrus. The fragrance is the same across the products in your order.

You also choose the intensity across three levels. That matters if you like a scent but prefer it discreet, or if you use several products in a row and do not want them layering on top of one another.

Fragrance is an option with us, not something that comes automatically. You can also leave it out entirely.

Yes. You can opt out of fragrance in all of our products.

If you leave fragrance out, no perfume appears in your ingredient list. Perfume is the most common cause of contact allergy in cosmetics, so it is worth considering if you have a sensitive scalp, known fragrance allergies, or are pregnant.

The product is not entirely odorless. It will carry the faint natural scent of its own ingredients, which varies with the formulation, but no fragrance has been added.

We select ingredients on two criteria: natural origin and scientifically documented effect.

Some are Danish. Our activated charcoal and red willow bark extract are both made from organic red willow grown in North Jutland. Others come from specialized European producers, because that is where the research and the raw material quality are.

Production itself takes place in Allerød, where we blend, pack and ship everything ourselves.

Because your product is blended for you. Your hair analysis determines which actives go in, and at what dosage. Two people with different needs therefore get two different ingredient lists, even though the product has the same name.

It also means the list on this page is a complete catalog of everything we work with. Your own bottle contains a selection.

Not individually. The composition is determined by your hair analysis, so the actives match the needs of your hair and scalp, and so the dosages work together in a stable formula.

You do choose the fragrance yourself, whether you want fragrance at all, and the color of the packaging.

Every ingredient is labeled with the effects it contributes, for example Moisturizing, Anti-dandruff or Detangling.

Some ingredients are actives that work on the hair or scalp. Others are functional and carry labels such as Preservative, Emulsifier or pH adjuster. The latter are no less important: without them the product would separate, spoil or sit at the wrong pH.

We only label an ingredient with an effect it delivers itself, not with effects belonging to the actives it carries.

By law, ingredients must be listed in order of quantity, largest first. In all hair care, water is the largest component, which is why it always appears at the top.

It is not filler. Most of the active substances, meaning proteins, peptides, sugars and plant extracts, can only be absorbed and distributed when dissolved in water.

Ingredients below 1 % may be listed in any order at the end. That is why powerful actives often appear near the bottom of the list: they work in very small amounts.

INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients and is the shared naming system every cosmetic product in the world must be declared under. It is why the list says Aqua rather than water.

The system exists so you can recognize an ingredient regardless of which country the product comes from, and regardless of what other language appears on the bottle. That matters especially if you have an allergy and need to find a particular substance again.
