CAPRYLYL GLYCOL

Caprylyl Glycol is a small fatty alcohol molecule originally derived from coconut oil. It has the unusual property of behaving both as a humectant and as a mild preservative.

The moisturizing side binds water in the upper layers of the skin and leaves a light, gliding feel without greasiness. The preserving side makes the cell membranes of bacteria and mold permeable so they cannot multiply. It is not strong enough to stand alone, but it is strong enough that the formula can manage with markedly less traditional preservative.

That combination is one of the reasons modern hair care can be both gentle and stable at the same time.
