CI 15985 is a yellow dye, and at first glance it seems odd to put yellow into a product meant to remove golden tones from brown hair. The explanation lies in how colors behave together.

The pigment is used in a carefully balanced ratio alongside a blue and a violet pigment. Together the mixture produces a cool, brownish tone, and that is the tone deposited on the hair's surface during washing. Without the yellow, the result would be too cold and grayish on brown hair. The yellow keeps the blend on the warm side of neutral, so the color still reads as hair rather than as a toner.

The pigment deposits only on the surface and builds up gradually the more often you wash with it. It can be washed out again and does not enter the hair structure the way permanent color does.
