Hydrolyzed Corn Protein

HYDROLYZED CORN PROTEIN

Hydrolyzed means the protein has been broken down into smaller pieces before it goes into the product. That matters. A whole corn protein is far too large to enter a hair shaft and would simply sit on the outside, where it dries and makes hair stiff.

The small fragments, on the other hand, are roughly the same size as the building blocks the hair's own keratin is made of, and they have a similar amino acid composition. That lets them find their way into the porous areas of the shaft created by coloring, heat and wear, and settle into the gaps as a temporary patch. Hair feels thicker and is less prone to breaking.

The protein fragments also bind moisture and hold on to it. That combination of filling and hydration is why protein-treated hair feels soft and supple rather than merely smooth. These are vegan proteins, so no animal keratin is involved.
