Mannitol is a sugar alcohol found naturally in seaweed, mushrooms and a range of plants, where it both stores energy and protects the cells against stress. It is that second function that makes it interesting in scalp care.

Among humectants, mannitol is unusual because it is also an effective antioxidant.
