Butylene Glycol is a clear, syrupy liquid that solves two problems at once in a formulation.

The first is practical: many of the most effective plant extracts and peptides cannot be dissolved in water alone. Butylene Glycol draws them out of the plant and keeps them in solution in the product, so they are actually available when you use it. Without a carrier like this, several of the active ingredients would simply settle out.

The second is moisture. The molecule binds water from its surroundings and carries it into the upper layers of the skin. That gives a light, non-greasy hydrating effect and at the same time makes the product more pleasant to spread. It is one of the mildest substances in its group and well suited to a sensitive scalp.
