Real keratin comes from wool, feathers or horn and is therefore never vegan. This is something else: a protein from soy and rice, engineered to mimic keratin's structure and behave the same way in hair.

What sets it apart from ordinary plant proteins is size. The fragments have been made very small, small enough to get past the cuticle and all the way into the hair's core, where its strength resides. There they bind to the hair's own protein structure and patch the breaks caused by bleaching, coloring and heat.

Because the bond forms inside the shaft rather than on the outside, the effect lasts through several washes. Hair regains its resilience and breaks less during everyday handling. It suits you if your hair is chemically treated, stretches when wet, or snaps when you detangle it.
