Sodium Benzoate

SODIUM BENZOATE

Sodium Benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid, which occurs naturally in cranberries, lingonberries and cinnamon. It is one of the most widely used preservatives in both cosmetics and food.

It keeps the product free of bacteria, yeast and mold, and it works particularly well in acidic formulations, which is exactly the pH hair care needs to sit at to suit the scalp. Without an effective preservative, a product containing water, proteins and plant extracts would be unusable within a few weeks.

It is globally approved, thoroughly tested over decades and assessed as safe for daily use. It is used at very low concentrations and therefore appears last in the ingredient list.
