Vitamin E

TOCOPHERYL ACETATE

Tocopheryl Acetate is vitamin E in a stabilized form. Pure tocopherol breaks down fairly quickly when exposed to light and oxygen, and would therefore be used up long before the product had a chance to work. Attaching an acetate group makes the molecule stable in the bottle, and the skin itself cleaves the acetate group off and releases the active vitamin E once it has penetrated.

Down in the scalp it works in two ways. It captures the free radicals generated by sun, pollution and ordinary metabolism, which would otherwise create oxidative stress around the hair follicles. And it becomes part of the skin's lipid layer, where it strengthens the barrier so less moisture evaporates.

Clinical studies show markedly improved moisture balance and reduced oxidative stress. On the hair shaft it settles into the lipid layer, where it smooths the surface and gives a natural shine.
