Sea kale grows wild along the coastline, standing directly in salt spray, wind and harsh sunlight. To cope, the plant has developed thick, blue-green leaves with a waxy coating and a high content of antioxidants. That defense mechanism is what the extract brings into the hair.

Colored hair fades because the pigments are broken down by oxygen and light, and because they leak out through an open cuticle with every wash. Sea kale extract works on both fronts. The antioxidants capture free radicals before they reach the pigment, and the extract smooths the cuticle down so color molecules stay inside the shaft.
