Cocamidopropyl Betaine

COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE

Cocamidopropyl Betaine is made from coconut oil and is one of the mildest cleansing agents available for hair. It belongs to a group called amphoteric surfactants, meaning the molecule can switch charge depending on what it encounters. That flexibility is exactly why it is so gentle.

On its own it foams modestly. What it does remarkably well, though, is what happens when it is blended with other cleansers: it binds to them and makes them milder, while making the foam denser and creamier. The result is a shampoo that cleans thoroughly without leaving the scalp tight, dry and squeaky.

It is well suited to daily washing and to a sensitive or dry scalp, and it is one of the mainstays of a sulfate-free formulation.
