BETAINE

Betaine is extracted from sugar beet and belongs to a group of substances called osmolytes. Plants and cells use them to control how much water they hold on to, and that is exactly the mechanism betaine brings to the scalp.

Instead of laying moisture on top of the skin, betaine goes into the cells and helps them retain their own water. The effect therefore lasts longer than ordinary surface hydration, and it also works when the air is dry in winter or when you wash your hair often. At the same time betaine strengthens the skin barrier so less moisture evaporates, and it eases the irritation that comes with a dried-out scalp.
