Dextran

DEXTRAN

Dextran is a sugar made by fermentation, letting bacteria convert ordinary sugar into long, branched chains. It is the same kind of process used to make yogurt and sourdough.

Peptides are fragile molecules. They break down easily and lose their effect if they are not held in the right form. Dextran acts as a kind of scaffold around the peptide in Capixyl™: it keeps the molecule intact in the bottle and releases it gradually once the product has reached the scalp. Without it, much of the effect would be lost before the product even arrived.

Dextran also contributes moisture in its own right. Like all larger sugar chains it binds water and settles as a soft, moisture-holding layer on the skin, making the scalp more comfortable and less tight.
