Hydrogenated Castor Oil Copolymer

HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL/SEBACIC ACID COPOLYMER

This ingredient is built from two plant-based building blocks: hydrogenated castor oil from the castor plant's seeds and sebacic acid, which is derived from the same oil. Combined, they form a flexible polymer that behaves differently from an ordinary oil.

Where oil spreads freely and can make hair heavy, the polymer settles in a continuous, smooth film around the hair shaft. The film seals down the cuticle scales that stand lifted on worn hair and fills in where the surface is rough. When the surface becomes even, light reflects back in one direction instead of scattering, and that is what makes hair look glossy rather than dull.

The effect is greatest in the ends, where hair is oldest and most frayed. The polymer gathers the split fibers and holds them together until they are cut off. It does not repair the damage permanently, but it makes it less visible and stops the splitting from creeping further up the strand.
