The holiday is over, and your hair may not have come home with you. It feels dry, sleek in the wrong way, or simply not like itself. Sun, salt water, chlorine and sunscreen do quiet work on both hair and scalp. Here is a calm reset: cleanse what is sitting there, then give the hair what it actually needs.
What holidays do to hair
UV from the sun wears down the hair’s outer layer, the cuticle. When those scales sit more open, moisture escapes, and the hair turns dull, coarse and frizzy more easily. Salt water pulls moisture out. Chlorine settles in the strand and can leave it limp and dry. Sunscreen, salt and styling products like to stay in the scalp.
It is rarely one problem. It is often three at once: build-up at the scalp, dry ends, and a scalp irritated by sun and salt.
Skip the harsh shortcut
The temptation is to wash harder, more often, with something that “really cleans”. That may lift the build-up, but it also takes the natural oil the scalp needs after the sun. A better split: one gentle deep cleanse when you need it, then a formula for what the hair is missing now.
Every LULAB product is vegan and free from sulfates, silicones, parabens and mineral oils. We make it only after you order, in Allerød.
Step 1: Cleanse what is sitting there
If the hair feels heavy, oily at the roots, or never quite clean after the holiday, it is often build-up. Customised Charcoal Shampoo is made for that. It contains organic charcoal from red willow grown in Northern Jutland, and it cleanses hair and scalp gently.
Use it as needed as the first wash, then follow with your customised shampoo. It is not an everyday shampoo. It is a reset when there is something to take out.
Step 2: Give the hair what it needs now
Once the build-up is gone, care can get in. After sun and salt, most hair wants moisture, and many strands also want strength.
Your Customised Shampoo and Customised Conditioner are built from your hair survey. The algorithm and Polydosing Technology™ dose the ingredients your hair needs. For hair that has been in sun and water, that can include:
- Moisture and softness, so the hair does not feel coarse
- Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, which helps strengthen damaged hair
- Wakame extract, which can help protect the hair fibre from UV and daily wear
You do not get a standard “holiday formula”. You get the formula your profile points to.
Step 3: Do not forget the scalp
Sun, salt and chlorine hit the scalp too. If it is dry, itchy or out of balance, length care is not enough. Customized Scalp Serum is meant as a mask for the scalp: moisture, and a calmer scalp, built for your needs.
We have written more in Treat your scalp the way you treat your face.
Step 4: Be a little gentler for the first weeks
Heat tools and tight styles load hair that is already dry. Give it a couple of weeks with less heat, and brush through so the scalp’s natural oils travel from root to tip. A Care Brush with boar bristles is made for that.
When the hair has changed
A holiday can change both structure and scalp. If your formula suddenly feels wrong, it has not “run out”. The need has moved. Take the hair survey again, and we adjust the dose. Products are made only when you order, so the new bottle matches the hair you have now, not the hair you had in June.
